Reece Weaver Extends Broadway Run in ‘Chicago’

Reece Weaver will spend two more weeks as Roxie Hart in Broadway’s “Chicago.” 

The former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader has extended her limited engagement through Sunday, November 1. Her run had been scheduled to end October 18. Weaver made her Broadway debut September 7 at the Ambassador Theatre in New York. The extension takes her engagement from six weeks to eight and keeps her in the role through the end of October. 

The current Broadway cast also includes Lissa deGuzman as Velma Kelly, Max von Essen as Billy Flynn, Natasha Yvette Williams as Matron “Mama” Morton, Red Concepción as Amos Hart and J. Workman as Mary Sunshine. 

The Broadway revival of “Chicago” began as part of New York City Center’s Encores! series before opening at the Richard Rodgers Theatre in 1996. It later moved to the Shubert Theatre, then transferred to the Ambassador Theatre in 2003, where it remains.

Nearly three decades later, “Chicago” is Broadway’s second-longest-running show, behind only “The Phantom of the Opera.” Productions in dozens of countries have brought the musical to tens of millions of theatergoers worldwide.

The musical was created by John Kander, Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse. Walter Bobbie directed the revival, with choreography by Ann Reinking. Its creative team also includes scenic designer John Lee Beatty, costume designer William Ivey Long, lighting designer Ken Billington, sound designer Scott Lehrer and casting by ARC.
