Cyrus Veyssi Sets Broadway Debut in ‘& Juliet’

Creator, writer and comedian Cyrus Veyssi will make their Broadway debut this fall in “& Juliet,” joining the musical during the final months of its run at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

Veyssi will take over the role of May beginning October 13, succeeding Michael Iván Carrier. The casting adds another new face to a production that has increasingly turned to limited Broadway engagements and first-time Broadway performers ahead of its scheduled January 3, 2027 closing.

The role of May has been played by Carrier, who made his own Broadway debut in the production.

Veyssi’s arrival continues a steady series of casting changes for “& Juliet” as producers refresh the company late in its Broadway run.

Kenzie Ziegler joined the production as Charmion on September 15, while singer Spencer Sutherland began performances as Romeo and social media personality and recording artist Anthony Gargiula joined as François the same day. Aly Michalka is scheduled to make her Broadway debut as Anne beginning November 3.

The casting announcements come as “& Juliet” approaches the end of a Broadway run that began with previews in October 2022 before officially opening the following month. Producers announced earlier in September that the musical will play its final performance January 3, 2027. By closing, it is expected to have played 1,723 regular performances and 20 previews.

The show has grossed more than $175 million and welcomed more than 1.5 million Broadway audience members, according to figures released with the closing announcement. The production recouped its investment in 2024 and received nine Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical.

Written by David West Read, “& Juliet” reimagines Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” by asking what might happen if Juliet survived and chose to begin a new life rather than follow the tragedy’s familiar ending. The musical features a score built around pop songs written or co-written by Max Martin and is directed by Luke Sheppard with choreography by Jennifer Weber.
