Oceans Calling Cancels Friday as East Coast Storm Forces Weekend Event Changes

UPDATE: Oceans Calling has cancelled its entire weekend schedule amid worsening weather

Oceans Calling has canceled the opening day of its 2026 festival in Ocean City, Maryland, after days of severe coastal weather and beach erosion left crews unable to safely complete construction of the festival site in time for Friday.

The cancellation wipes out a Friday lineup that included Dave Matthews Band, Hootie & the Blowfish, Ludacris, O.A.R., Yellowcard, Shaggy and other artists at the three-day beachfront festival. Saturday and Sunday remain scheduled as organizers work to salvage the remainder of the weekend.

“Despite the extraordinary efforts of our production, site, safety teams, and the city staff/officials,” organizers said Thursday, continued weather and resulting beach erosion had made it impossible to safely finish preparations for Friday.

The disruption comes as a slow-moving coastal storm brings persistent onshore winds, flooding and high surf to portions of the East Coast, with some effects expected to continue through the weekend and become more significant farther north. Ed Sheeran’s performances at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts were also cancelled on Friday morning.

Friday Ticket Holders Will Get Refunds

Fans who bought one-day Friday tickets directly through Front Gate Tickets will receive automatic refunds to their original payment method. Buyers of three-day passes through Front Gate will receive a 33% refund, according to the festival.

Organizers said the refunds will be processed automatically, with the notice indicating the process may take about 30 days.

The announcement specifically addresses tickets purchased directly through Front Gate. It does not explain in detail how the partial cancellation will be handled for fans who purchased three-day passes through resale channels.

That could be particularly relevant for Oceans Calling because the festival recognizes Ticketmaster Verified Exchange as its official resale option. Its ticketing guidance also warns that it cannot assist with ticket or wristband problems involving purchases through third-party marketplaces.

As of Thursday, organizers had not canceled Saturday or Sunday.

“We are working very hard to get the show up for the remainder of the weekend,” the festival said, while asking fans to continue watching its official channels for updates.

Twenty One Pilots is scheduled to lead Saturday’s program, while Mumford & Sons closes the festival Sunday. The event had sold out ahead of the weekend, with more than 40 performances planned across three stages along the Ocean City Boardwalk.

Coastal Storm Already Affecting Other Weekend Events

Oceans Calling’s cancellation is tied not simply to the possibility of bad weather during show hours, but to damage that has already occurred at the beachfront site.

The National Weather Service had Ocean City under a Coastal Flood Warning and High Surf Advisory Thursday, with waves of 8 to 12 feet expected in the surf zone and one to two feet of inundation possible in vulnerable shoreline areas. The Ocean City forecast called for continued strong winds Friday, including gusts around 38 mph, with breezy conditions continuing Saturday.

The effects are not limited to Ocean City.

In Massachusetts, organizers have begun postponing or canceling several outdoor events scheduled for this weekend as the coastal storm moves north.

BlueHillsFest, originally scheduled for Saturday at the Blue Hills Reservation near Boston, has been pushed to Oct. 17 because of what organizers called the approaching nor’easter.

The Brews, Views, Bites & Beats Festival on the Lynn waterfront also postponed its Saturday event, which was to include live music, food trucks and other entertainment. Organizers moved the festival all the way to spring 2027 because of the severe-weather forecast.

The South Shore YMCA similarly postponed its annual Corn Festival in Hanover, which includes live music among its programming, while the Mayflower Beer Garden in Plymouth canceled its Saturday and Sunday outdoor sessions because of the weather.

The National Weather Service office serving Boston described the system Thursday morning as a strong coastal low expected to produce a prolonged period of rain, rough seas, strong winds and coastal flooding and erosion Friday through the weekend, with eastern Massachusetts particularly exposed.

All Things Go, Global Citizen Still Scheduled

So far, however, the weather has not produced widespread cancellations among the other major East Coast music festivals taking place this weekend.

All Things Go’s New York edition remained scheduled to begin Friday afternoon at Forest Hills Stadium as of Thursday, with official ticket listings still active. The festival is scheduled to run through Sunday and its published policies state that the event takes place rain or shine.

Global Citizen Festival also remained scheduled for Saturday on the Great Lawn in Central Park, where Ms. Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean, Lenny Kravitz, John Legend, Lainey Wilson, Shaboozey, TOMORROW X TOGETHER and others are set to perform. Global Citizen’s latest attendee guidance likewise says the festival will take place rain or shine.

The National Weather Service’s New York office currently expects comparatively limited rainfall impacts from the coastal storm around the city, although gusty winds, coastal flooding and beach erosion remain concerns through the weekend.

That leaves Oceans Calling as the most significant music-event casualty of the storm so far, with organizers now facing the separate question of whether conditions will allow its stages and festival infrastructure to be ready for Saturday.

Weather has derailed Oceans Calling before. The festival’s planned inaugural edition in 2022 was canceled in its entirety as remnants of Hurricane Ian threatened Ocean City with high winds, tidal flooding and heavy rain. The festival ultimately made its debut the following year.

This time, organizers are hoping to avoid losing the entire weekend. Saturday and Sunday remain on the schedule, but fans are being directed to the festival’s official channels for further updates as coastal conditions continue.
