Elton John, Charli xcx Lead First Apple Music Hall Concert Lineup

Apple Music Hall has revealed the first artists set to perform at its new 600-capacity London venue, with Elton John scheduled to open the room September 28.

The inaugural slate also includes Baby Keem, Skye Newman, Troye Sivan, Arlo Parks, Burna Boy, Chase & Status and Charli xcx, giving Apple a lineup of acts accustomed to playing venues many times larger than the intimate new space inside Battersea Power Station.

John’s opening-night performance comes just one week after Apple formally unveiled Apple Music Hall, which the company designed as both a concert venue and a full-scale recording and broadcast facility.

The lineup substantially raises the profile of Apple’s new live-music operation, particularly given the venue’s limited capacity. Apple Music Hall holds just 600 people while offering production infrastructure more commonly associated with much larger concert spaces.

Apple says the venue includes a 38-foot-wide reconfigurable stage, a 48-speaker spatial audio system and two dedicated recording and mixing studios. It is also wired for at least 16 cameras feeding a purpose-built broadcast control room, allowing performances to be recorded and prepared for distribution directly from the venue.

Performances at Apple Music Hall are also designed to be livestreamed globally, extending shows beyond the small number of fans able to attend in person.

The room marks a return to a more direct role in live music for Apple, which previously operated the iTunes Festival and later Apple Music Festival in London. Unlike those events, which took over existing venues, Apple Music Hall gives the company a permanent performance, recording and broadcast facility of its own.

Apple Music Hall’s website currently directs fans to register for show and on-sale announcements. The company has also said additional information about accessing tickets will be distributed through the venue website and its social channels.

Apple opened the venue as it continues to expand Apple Music’s relationship with the live-event business. Ticketmaster earlier this year became the first ticketing platform integrated directly into Apple Music, while Apple also expanded its relationship with Bandsintown to bring concert listings and discovery tools into artist pages and other parts of the service.
